reception from 5 to 9 p.m.  The show will continue through Saturday, May 1,

"Primarily Paper" will focus on "paper as a vehicle for expression and as
the expressive medium itself," says gallery founder and director, Allan
Rosenfield.

The show will feature the handmade paper creations of Albuquerque artist,
teacher and storyteller Judy Hatfield, as well as works on paper by other
Galeria ARTopia artists.

Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by
appointment.  The gallery is located at 5100 Constitution Ave. NE in
Albuquerque, NM.  More information about the how and the gallery can be

About Artist Judy Hatfield

Judy Hatfield says her interest in papermaking goes back to "the age of five
when I started collecting paper dolls."  Many years later a friend who had
taken a papermaking class introduced Judy to the art, "first with a blender
and an iron, later with a handmade Hollander and a 20,000 ton paper press."

"Making paper," says Hatfield, "is a rigidly structured process with certain
inviolable rules. However, you can also make paper by throwing handfuls of
pulp on the floor."

Hatfield is largely self-taught, but credits workshops taught by the Museum
of New Mexico Print Shop through the University of New Mexico Continuing
Education Program for some of her skills and inspiration.

Born in Missouri and educated at the University of New Mexico, Judy is a
professional librarian who has worked with the Albuquerque Public Library
and the Albuquerque Public Schools. She has also taught at the Albuquerque
Academy.

Judy Hatfield is also one of New Mexico's premier storytellers. She has
performed on Albuquerque's KUNM (89.9 FM) radio and at museums, schools, and
public libraries throughout the state. Her extensive repertoire includes
folktales from cultures the world over.

About Galeria ARTopia

digital images, representing the works of several artists.

Since April 2003, Galeria ARTopia has operated a unique home-based gallery
in Albuquerque, NM, that has presented the works of emerging and mid-career
artists "whose works have been overlooked by the mainstream art
establishment," according to gallery director Allan Rosenfield.

for individuals and businesses, with special attention given to the
