"It was really an accident that we started making these,"says Wes Grey Wolf. "As partial payment for another job, Allan and I were gifted with a hoard of very old gourds many years ago, and we're still tapping that treasure."

Both artists work on all aspects of fashioning their gourd creations. "The one thing we did not want to do," says Rosenfield, "was to be traditional."
